Nobody wants Ginger Children

Via: Atlantic Wire

We always thought having red hair was fashionable, at least that’s what Interview Magazine told us, but it turns out nobody wants ginger babies anymore, reports The Telegraph. The world’s largest sperm bank has started turning down donors because of a lack of demand. “There are too many redheads in relation to demand,” Ole Schou the sperm bank director told Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet, continues The Telegraph. “I do not think you chose a redhead, unless the partner–for example, the sterile male–has red hair, or because the lone woman has a preference for redheads. And that’s perhaps not so many, especially in the latter case.”

We wonder why anyone wouldn’t want a baby with beautiful strawberry locks. Perhaps it has something to do with the teasing red-headed children sometimes face?

Or maybe it has to do with this New York Times piece that claims red heads are more sensitive to physical pain?

I’m not making this one up – Republicans/Teabaggers are NOW in favor of Illegal Immigration!

Via: Think Progress

The bill by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) that would require businesses to screen for undocumented immigrants using the E-Verify system is facing growing opposition from Smith’s own party. E-Verify has been plagued by false identifications and concerns that it casts an overly-wide net that ensnares American citizens along with the undocumented.

At a markup of the bill yesterday, one Republican, Rep. Dan Lungren (CA) said, “It would DEVASTATE AGRICULTURE. … If we NOT RECOGNIZE the demonstrated NEED for FOREIGN WORKERS.”

An estimated 80 percent of workers in the agricultural industry are undocumented, and agricultural groups testified in June that a mandatory E-Verify bill could driveout vital employees that cannot easily be replaced.

Additionally, a coalition of almost 30 conservative and Tea Party groups representing millions has launched a national media campaign against the bill.

Their letter to the House Judiciary Committee focuses on the negative impact to employers and threat to civil liberties: “This job-killer (construction, health-care, restaurants, police officers, teachers, etc, and etc) creates a universal, mandatory electronic employment verification system by EVERY employer in the U.S. for EVERY person seeking employment in the U.S.”

personal thought:

You are NOT going to be able to stop illegals entering the U.S. from Mexico by building a 1,969 mile long ‘Berlin Wall’.

The ONLY way to do it is to REQUIRE employers to hire ONLY legals; and the ONLY way to do that is to verify legal status; i.e. E-VERIFY.

I seldom, if ever, agree with Rep. Dan Lundren (R-CA), but there is NO QUESTION we need FOREIGN WORKERS.

Well then, Reform Immigration.

‘AMISH Terrorists, the Newest Threat to Our Nation’ – Homeland Security

Okay, okay, I made that up. The almost real, headline.

‘Meet The Eight Amish Guys Jailed For Refusing To Attach Orange Safety Triangles To Their Buggies’

~

Here are the booking photos of the eight members of an Amish sect who were ordered jailed by a Kentucky judge after they refused to pay fines for failing to affix orange safety triangles to their horse-drawn buggies.

The men, who were booked Monday night into the Graves County jail, refused to pay the fines on grounds that their religion bars them from wearing or displaying bright colors. Jailed for misdemeanor contempt of court, the inmates were provided dark-colored jumpsuits in place of the standard issue orange coveralls.

The defendants were hit with a range of time in the county lockup (between three and 10 days) by District Court Judge Deborah Hawkins Crook.

While members of the Swartzentruber Amish sect will affix reflective tape to the rear of their buggies, they eschew use of the bright safety triangle, which they consider too modern.

In summary:

BAD: bright safety triangle, which they consider too modern

GOOD: old fashion (bright?) reflective tape

Damn, now we have to deal with Libertarian/Teabagger/Swartzentruber’s – man, are we F*cked, or what!
