“Quote of the Day”

“That is a pretty good symptom of how much the left has collapsed as a moral system in this country, and why you need to reassert something by saying to them, ‘Go get a job right after you take a bath'”.

– Newt Gingrich®

We Are the 99 Percent

I am here for everybody, or rather the 99% that have been taken advantage of for so many years.

Things are so much worse than 20 or even 30 years ago.

Everything goes up except wages and workers are expected to do so much more for less.

I am the 99%.

We are the 99 Percent.

We are getting kicked out of our homes.

We are forced to choose between groceries and rent.

We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution.

We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we’re working at all.

We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything.

We are the 99 percent.

Brought to you by the people who occupy wall street.

Why will YOU occupy?

Gingrich®: ‘I Think I Will Probably Teach A Course When I’m President’

Via: Think Progress

During a campaign event today, 2012 GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich said that, if he wins the election, he will hold an online course laying out the things that he expects to accomplish during his time in office. In announcing this idea, Gingrich poked fun at recent reports that he has received millions of dollars from, among others, mortgage giant Freddie Mac and the pharmaceutical drug industry:

“By the way, I think I will probably teach a course when I’m president. I think I will probably try to do something that outlines for the whole country what we’re going to try to accomplish, and offer it online sort of like the University of Phoenix or Kaplan. So that way if the country wants, they can sign up”.

For the Rich, Cargo Vans on Steroids

Via: New York Times

Steve Kantor admits that he likes to travel in style. He is an affable investment banker, concerned about flaunting his wealth, but he drives around Manhattan in what looks like a simple black delivery van.

Of course, most vans do not have chauffeurs, as Mr. Kantor’s has. Or a built-in office, custom installed.

“I have two big-screen televisions; I have a couch in the back that goes into a bed,” Mr. Kantor said. “I have four chairs that go back and massage you. It has a desk, a table and an intercom so you can have meetings in there if you want to.”

As the economy limps along and more attention is paid to the so-called 1 percent, some of the richest New Yorkers have taken to driving around in vehicles that ooze neither wealth nor privilege. But on the inside, the vans may be as lavishly decorated as the private railroad cars owned by turn-of-the-century industrialists.

Don Young (R-AK) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Think Progress

At a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on the dangers of drilling the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Rep. Don Young (R-AK) exploded with rage.

The hearing, with witnesses requested by the Democratic minority, was scheduled by Republicans for Friday afternoon. “I call it garbage, Dr. Rice,” Young said, addressing his comments to Dr. Douglas Brinkley, a historian at Rice University. When Brinkley corrected his name, Young grew even more apoplectic, saying, “I can call you anything I want if you sit in that chair.”

YOUNG: If you ever want want to see an exercise in futility … That side has already made up its mind and this side has already made up its mind. I call it garbage, Dr. Rice, it comes from the mouth –

BRINKLEY: It’s Dr. Brinkley. Rice is a university –

YOUNG: Well, okay, I can call you anything I want if you sit in that chair. You just be quiet! You be quiet!

After Young’s irate outburst, Committee chairman Doc Hastings (R-WA) castigated Dr. Brinkley for interrupting the Alaska congressman and disrupting the “comity” of the hearing.

“The Arctic plain is really nothing,” Young continued, calling Dr. Brinkley “elitist.” “You can go on all the pontifigurds you want . . . I’m really pissed.”

“Some people love money more than their homeland or where they live,” Dr. Brinkley said later, rebuking Young for his hatred of the undrilled Alaskan wilderness.

comity: friendly social atmosphere : social harmony <group activities promoting comity>

comedy: a drama of light and amusing character and typically with a happy ending
