Apollo 7 (October 11–22, 1968) was the first manned mission in the American Apollo space program, and the first manned US space flight after a cabin fire killed the crew of what was to have been the first manned mission, AS-204 (later renamed Apollo 1), during a launch pad test in 1967.
It was a C type missionn – an 11-day Earth-orbital mission, the first manned launch of the Saturn IB launch vehicle, and the first three-person US space mission. The crew was commanded by Walter M. Schirra, with Command Module Pilot Donn F. Eisele, and Lunar Module Pilot R. Walter Cunningham.

Jim Morrison would’ve of been 68 today; IF he hadn’t broken on through
James Douglas “Jim” Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) was an American musician, singer, and poet, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band The Doors.
Following The Doors’ explosive rise to fame in 1967, Morrison developed a severe alcohol and drug dependency which culminated in his untimely death in Paris in 1971 at age 27, due to a suspected heroin overdose. However, the events surrounding his death continue to be the subject of controversy, as no autopsy was performed on his body after death, and the exact cause of his death is disputed by many to this day.

“Quote of the Day”
“Little in the way of expression is outlawed in the United States Constituion, but an act which incites forceful response (see photo) is unlikely to pass as express speech.” – Judge Frances McIntyre

Police plan to remove Occupy Boston protesters from their 2-month-old camp this weekend after a judge lifted an order that had protected them from eviction.
The ruling by Suffolk Superior Court Judge Frances McIntyre was met with surprise by demonstrators, who immediately vowed to go back to court to fight any attempt to kick them out.
Congressional Staffers Foolishly Drink and Tweet Their Jobs Away, On the Job
Via: Wonkette
It is bad enough being a powerless Democratic House representative having to watch orange Juggalo John Boehner strut the halls of Congress every day with a trail of Chiclet-toothed goobers sniveling in his wake every single day, as part of your job.
You would be sad.
It would be terrible.
But today, even more sadly and more terribly, Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA) suffered the further indignity of finding out his own pack of drunk, goofaloofing staffers (see photo) like to get on the Twitter and call him an ‘idiot’ and ‘a pussy.’

‘Froathy’ Santorum – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’
Via: Huffington Post
Speaking in Le Mars (in Mars?- or ON Mars?), Iowa on Monday, Rick Santorum promised to significantly reduce federal funding for food stamps, arguing that the nation’s increasing obesity rates render the program unnecessary:
Santorum told the group he would cut the food stamp program, describing it as one of the fastest growing programs in Washington, D.C.
Forty-eight million people are on food stamps in a country with 300-million people, said Santorum.
“If hunger is a problem in America, then why do we have an obesity problem among the people who we say have a hunger program?” Santorum asked.
~
The cost of the food stamp program — the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — has jumped because more Americans are out of work and wages are down, not because of obesity rates. Recent data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that nearly “70 percent households that relied on food stamps last year had no earned income,” although many households did benefit from Social Security benefits and other government programs. But a whopping 20 percent of households had no cash income at all last year.
Food prices have also gone up, adding additional costs.
In fact, the food stamp program has been critical for reducing poverty and pumping money into local economies during the down economy, so cutting it now would not only take food out of peoples’ mouths (regardless of whether they are obese or not) and could slow down the recovery.

“After Being Denied Food Stamps, Despairing Mother Shoots Her Two Children In Welfare Office”
Rachelle Grimmer and her two children were a struggling family living in a rundown trailer park. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services denied her application for food stamps, saying that she did not submit enough information. Grimmer went to a welfare office in Laredo to discuss her case.
What happened next was nothing short of horrific — after a seven-hour standoff with police, Grimmer shot her two children and then herself:
One of the children, 12-year-old Ramie Grimmer, died Wednesday night at a San Antonio hospital, Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza said. The girl’s brother, 10, remained in critical condition.
Ramie appeared to post a chilling update on Facebook while her mother squared off with police Monday at a Laredo welfare office. Her profile was updated to read “may die 2day” just hours before authorities say her mother shot the girl and her brother, then killed herself to end the seven-hour standoff.
