Solomon Burke was right: ‘Everybody Needs Somebody to Love’

Solomon Burke (March 21, 1940 – October 10, 2010) was an American singer-songwriter, entrepreneur, mortician, and an archbishop of the United House of Prayer For All People.

Burke was known as “King Solomon,” the “King of Rock ‘n’ Soul,” and as the “Bishop of Soul,” and described as “the Muhammad Ali of soul,” and as “the most unfairly overlooked singer of soul’s golden age.”

Jeremy Faison (R-TN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Wonkette

Oh, yeah, Tennessee state Rep. Jeremy Faison is VERY VERY SORRY about the awful thing he said, about the gay children who killed themselves in his state after they had been bullied for being so very queer. Just how stupid is fat fuckface up there?

“We can’t continue to legislate everything. We’ve had some horrible things happen in America and in our state, and there’s children that have actually committed suicide, but I will submit to you today that they did not commit suicide because of somebody bullying them. They committed suicide because they were not instilled the proper principles of where their self-esteem came from at home.”

RLY. The “proper principles” like probably not being such fags, we guess. But it’s not like he’s a big expert on homo stuff, ’cause he is godfearing (“attended” Clearwater Christian College and Northland Baptist Bible College) and has four children who doubtless HAVE been raised with proper principles of where their self-esteem comes from (not being fags), so you could see why this well-meaning fellow would accidentally make a gaffe in his pants. Nope, most of his bills pertain to goin’ offroadin’ and making sure funds are not allocated to implement enforcement of new child laborregulations.

But it’s true we can’t continue to “legislate everything,” EXCEPT when it comes to uteruses and men’s bottoms.

Anyway, Faison represents Cocke County, for serious, so haha? Oh, Tennessee, never change. (Kidding, kidding, you’re horrible just the way you are!)

Wars in Iraq, Afghanistan AND Iran

‘Open Secrets’ chart the donations for March

Via: Think Progress

The Army Times reported in February that ANTI-WAR GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-TX) was at that time, “by far,” getting the most in campaign contributions from members of the United States military. According to a review of Federal Election Commission data, Paul received nearly $250,000 in donations from servicemembers, President Obama, $130,000 and GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney just $23,000.

But now that Paul’s campaign is all but over and presumably, Romney will be the Republican nominee, the military’s donation trend is beginning to shift: away from Paul and toward Obama:

“Quote of the Day”

“We highlight our elected officials so people understand that we do have Republicans that are elected that are black.

I don’t care if they are a mosquito sprayer or a dog catcher in Arizona, or Jennifer Carroll OR Allen West.”

– RNC co-chair Sharon Day, the committee’s coalition director
