Breaking News – Romney Stares Uncomprehendingly at $1 Bill

POCATELLO, ID—A $1 bill somehow made its way into the hands of Mitt Romney during a campaign stop Thursday, reportedly causing the Republican presidential candidate a moment of uncomprehending fascination. “What am I looking at here? What is this?” said Romney, squinting at the bill as he turned it over and over in his hands.

“It almost looks like money, but it’s missing the zeroes. Huh. Do people try to buy things with this?”

Romney finally crumpled up the bill and threw it away, chuckling as he told reporters that “whoever thought that one up must be a real wiseacre.”

Xabi Etcheverry was born in Bayonne in 1976. He went on a photography course at the Montreal School of Fine Arts and then worked as a film-set photographer. He went to the Land of the Rising Sun for a short visit and ended up staying there for more than a year. Based in Tokyo, he explored the four corners of the archipelago. His photo album Being 20 in Tokyo was created between September 2002 and June 2004. Etcheverry restricts himself to black and white photography in order to discover a city of extremes and paradoxes between the East and the West, tradition and modernity. Being 20 in Tokyo is learning to live in a more competitive world, being able to show initiative and creativity… the young Tokyoites understand this, and multiply experimentation in all areas – professional, the way they dress and with their bodies… Xabi Etcheverry reveals this gentle rebellion to us in his photographic work. He is currently working on a new piece of work, still about Japan, which confronts the hidden sides of Japanese society. He is also working with the artist Luciano di Concetto on a series of portraits, blending photography and painting.

Wes Riddle (R-TX) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Think Progress

A congressional hopeful has a plan to impeach President Obama, deep in the heart of Texas.

Wes Riddle, a Republican tea party activist locked in a run-off with fellow GOPer Roger Williams in Texas’ 25th congressional district, is campaigning on a conspiracy theory even more bizarre than the fantasy that the United Nations and George Soros are conspiring to eliminate the game of golf.

Riddle has promised to begin the impeachment process against President Obama the day he enters Congress — seemingly implying that he believes Obama will be reelected — because of a boundary treaty that was ratified by the Senate in 1991.

Obama was 30 years old at the time and just finishing up law school.

Riddle, a retired Army officer (see photo) from Gatesville, wants to impeach Obama for “giving away” seven Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea islands near Siberia to Russia.

(Yes, even though those islands were ceded in 1991 under President George H.W. Bush (remember him?).

Riddle ALSO wants to impeach Obama, according to the paper, because of “President Obama’s abuse of power and blatant disregard to the Constitution.”

This paranoid fantasy appears to have been spawned by Tea Party favorite Joe Miller. According to his World Net Daily piece, the Obama administration gave away “seven strategic, resource-laden Alaskan islands.” Miller was apoplectic: “We won the Cold War and should start acting like it.”

Though FactCheck.org (Facts? – Fuck facts!) has thoroughly debunked this conspiracy theory, reality hasn’t stopped Riddle from using it as a rationale for his goal of impeaching Obama.

Scott Brown (R-MA) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Charles P. Pierce

Senator Scott Brown is in medium dudgeon about this Fast And Furious  business, and he doesn’t care who knows it:

“Each and every day that I’ve been a United States senator, I’ve been  discussing issues, meeting on issues, in secret meetings and with kings (see photo) and  queens (see photo) and prime ministers and business leaders and military  leaders, talking,  voting, working on issues every single day,” he said  on the Jim Braude and  Margery Eagan Show.

Except, of course, well, no…

Brown spokesman Colin Reed said in an e-mail that “Senator Brown was  speaking generally about private meetings he has had with foreign and  domestic  leaders.” He later acknowledged that Brown, who has made his reputation as  a truck-driving everyman, has not met with any royalty. “He misspoke when  he said kings and queens,” Reed said.

‘Oh, I’ve been to Nice and the Isle of Greece while I’ve sipped champagne on a yacht

I’ve moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed ’em what I’ve got

I’ve been undressed by kings and I’ve seen some things that a woman ain’t supposed to see

I’ve been to paradise, but I’ve never been to me.’
