“Quote of the Day”

personal thought:

Romney was no more, no less, a shit-head than:

Gingrich, Santorum, Perry, Bachmann, Paul, Herman ‘hold the  sausage. baby’. >>>

So what’s your point, Grover?

Gingrich – Mamma f’n Mia!

Via: Philadelphia Inquirer

Some idiot had forgotten to mute his cellphone. Right in the middle of Newt Gingrich’s speech, it trilled the chorus of Abba’sDancing Queen.” People in the Olde Main Brewery in Ames, Iowa, craned their necks to see who had breached decorum.

Muttering (mutter, mutter, mutter), Gingrich pulled the phone from his pocket and sheepishly switched it off. He’d been trying to connect, but the interruption knocked him off his stride.

Another misstep in the brutal, can’t-look-away car wreck that was the first week of his presidential campaign.

Afterward, Gingrich FELT the NEED to tell reporters why he adored Mamma Mia!

When they do ‘Dancing Queen’ in the movie . . . I love that sequence,” he said, “the energy and the excitement.”

“It’s going to take a while for the news media to realize that you’re covering something that happens once or twice a century, a genuine grassroots CAMPAIGN of VERY BIG IDEAS,” Gingrich said. “I expect it to TAKE a WHILE for it to sink in.”

He said that in the Iowa city of Waterloo. Insert joke here.

By the way; according to Gringrich’s spokesman, Rick ‘literati’ Tyler; “people are turning out in BIG NUMBERS”:

How big, you ask?

Ames: – 160; which of course included: “Frida”, Bjorn, Benny, and Agnetha.

Waterloo – 110

Instead of Abba’s:

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen.

He should switch to Willie’s:

Turn out the lights
The party’s over
They say that
All good things must end
Call it tonight
The party’s over
And tomorrow starts
The same old thing again
But the crazy crazy party

Rick ‘literati’ Tyler – Newt’s big numbers!

Despite Newt Gingrich incredibly rough presidential rollout, his campaign team says that Gingrich is drawing fairly large crowds for this point in the cycle.

Spokesman Rick Tyler — he of the “literati” statement — tells First Read that more than 1,500 people so far have turned out to see Gingrich during his tour through Iowa.

“People are turning out in big numbers,” Tyler says. “If anything the turnouts would have been bigger if the media coverage was positive and not negative.”

His count:

Dubuque – 130
Cedar Rapids – 97
Des Moines – 200
Mason City – 160
Waterloo – 110
Marshalltown – 178
Ames – 160
Carroll – 104
Atlantic – 75
Council Bluffs – 140
Onawa – 68
Sioux City -120

personal thought:

It looks to me like Tyler isn’t taking the run very seriously; which begs the question, is Gingrich?

Or, is Gingrich like Trump, simply another ‘publicity whore’?

The term ‘stump speech’

first an example:

LAHORE/SIALKOT: In what appears to be a preview of his election stump speech, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif  lashed out at the establishment and said that the time has come to end the status quo and make a fresh start.

Chehalis, WA.

In May 1901, the stump was cut from a 360-year-old Douglas Fir tree near Pe Ell, and transported to Chehalis to serve as a speaking platform for President William McKinley. The trip was cancelled when McKinley’s wife took ill. A few months later, McKinley was assassinated, and Vice-President Roosevelt assumed the presidency.

In 1903, Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) gave a “stump speech” atop it, and was the only U.S. President to do so.

William H. Taft (1857-1930) used it as a podium in 1907, when he was Secretary of War. He was elected president in 1908.

The stump, along with a pagoda-like structure built over it, was originally located near the intersection of West Street and Market Boulevard, but was later moved closer to the nearby railroad depot. In the late 1940s, vandals set fire to the stump, and concrete had to be added to the burned portion to hold it together.

By 2007, the stump was infested with carpenter ants and the decision was made to remove it. The Lewis County Historical Society had hoped to save a cross-section, but when city crews cut into the stump they discovered that it was rotten throughout.

It was just announced by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, recently hired, press secretary, Rick Tyler; that he has cancelled plans to stop in Chehalis on his swing through the Western States.

Tyler was asked for a comment regarding Newt’s rather ‘shitty’ campaign roll-out:

His reply:

“The literati sent out their minions to do their bidding.

Washington cannot tolerate threats from outsiders who might disrupt their comfortable world.

The firefight started when the cowardly sensed weakness. They fired timidly at first, then the sheep not wanting to be dropped from the establishment’s cocktail party invite list unloaded their entire clip, firing without taking aim their distortions and falsehoods.

Now they are left exposed by their bylines and handles. But surely they had killed him off. This is the way it always worked. A lesser person could not have survived the first few minutes of the onslaught.

But out of the billowing smoke and dust of tweets and trivia emerged Gingrich, once again ready to lead those who won’t be intimated by the political elite and are ready to take on the challenges America faces.”
