“Quote of the Day”

1

“If we have a system where the government is going to be the principal provider of health care for the country, we’re done. Because then, you are dependent on the government for your life and your health. […]

“When Thatcher ran for prime minister she said – remember this, this is the Iron Lady – she said, ‘The British national health care system is safe in my hands.’ She wasn’t going to take on health care, because she knew once you have people getting free health care from the government, you can’t take it away from them.

“And the reason is because most people don’t get sick, and so free health care is just that, free health care, until you get sick. Then, if you get sick and you don’t get health care, you die and you don’t vote.
It’s actually a pretty clever system.
.
Take care of the people who can vote and people who can’t vote, get rid of them as quickly as possible by not giving them care so they can’t vote against you.
.
That’s how it works.”
.

“He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life,” Tagg Romney (photo: FAR right) told the paper.

“He had no desire to … run. If he could have found someone else to take his place … he would have been ecstatic to step aside.”

Hey, what about Michele ‘bat-shit insane’ Bachmann? Or, Herman ‘hold the sausage’ Cain? Or, ‘Frothy’ Santorum?

Well, I believe the GOP wingnuts who supported them during the campaign, thought they were eminently qualified.

Krugman – ‘Four Fiscal Phonies’

Via: NYT

Mitt Romney is very concerned about budget deficits. Or at least that’s what he says; he likes to warn that President Obama’s deficits are leading us toward a “Greece-style collapse.”

So why is Mr. Romney offering a budget proposal that would lead to much larger debt and deficits than the corresponding proposal from the Obama administration?

Of course, Mr. Romney isn’t alone in his hypocrisy. In fact, all four significant Republican presidential candidates (see photo) still standing are fiscal phonies. They issue apocalyptic warnings about the dangers of government debt and, in the name of deficit reduction, demand savage cuts in programs that protect the middle class and the poor. But then they propose squandering all the money thereby saved — and much, much more — on tax cuts for the rich.

And nobody should be surprised. It has been obvious all along, to anyone paying attention, that the politicians shouting loudest about deficits are actually using deficit hysteria as a cover story for their real agenda, which is top-down class warfare.

To put it in Romneyesque terms, it’s all about finding an excuse to slash programs that help people who like to watch Nascar events, even while lavishing tax cuts on people who like to own Nascar teams.

Mitt ‘the flipper’ Romney

Via: Think Progress

Mitt Romney has pilloried Rick ‘Frothy’ Santorum for seeking congressional earmarks, but a new video from 2002 unearthed by ABC News shows the former Massachusetts governor laying out an aggressive strategy to get federal funds for his state. “I want to go after EVERY grant. EVERY project, EVERY department in Washington,” Romney says in a presentation.

When Gingrich pulls out, Santorum will surge

Via: Dependable Renegade

Rick Santorum’s adviser, John Brabender (apparently he’s a top), thinks that the only way to save Ricky’s floundering campaign is if Newt Gingrich drops out of the race.

Newt, however, isn’t finished and won’t pull out until he’s done.

Top adviser John Brabender says Santorum’s future may depend upon Gingrich leaving the race. The former House speaker is showing no signs of bowing out, certainly not before next week’s Super Tuesday voting.

“If we could ever make this where we have all the conservatives and tea party supporters behind us as one candidate against Mitt Romney, we’ll win the nomination,” Brabender said Wednesday as the Santorum campaign recalibrated after finishing a disappointing second in Michigan’s primary.

Yes, I posted this just so I could write that headline.

Noted Economist Rick Santorum: Witch Obama Caused Housing Crash

Via: Wonkette

Smegma-lipped poutmonster Rick Santorum, continuing his streak of saying only and at all times sensible and logically sound things, reminded Americans today that it was President B. HUSSEIN Obama who retroactively caused the housing crash because of how he is a Gaia-worshipping lesbian Wiccan dildonic priestess who hates America, and low gas prices, and Jesus.

Obama is also a time traveler, because he went back to 2008 before he was even elected and caused the financial collapse.

Witches can do this!

Santorum, a “stealth lobbyist” for energy companies after his 18-point Senate loss to Pennsylvania Democrat Bob Casey (who, in a wacky twist, was actually dead!), clarified for voters in Michigan that it was not in fact CitiBank or Countrywide or any other tacky Wall Street grifters who looted the American economy.

Rather, he said, “The bubble burst in housing because people couldn’t pay their mortgages because of $4 a gallon gasoline.”

~~~
Non-Santorum economists reached by various outlets stroked their beards, nodded sagely, and explained in a terribly boring and wonky manner that Santorum, per usual, was gumming a mouthful of Lies!
Discussing just one possible issue with Santorum’s incisive explication of Stuff (and not, say, that people couldn’t pay their mortgages because they paid $1.2 million for a three-bedroom Costa Mesa tract house), some guy said this:
“On content, this seems like a pretty clear case of getting the direction wrong. Lehman fails in September 2008 and the economy collapses. That leads gasoline prices to plunge precipitously (check out the price series at Gas Buddy and click on the 5-year or 4-year graph) according to all analysts at the time because people understand output will be falling, not the other way around.”
Rick Sanitarium: Colleges Are ‘Indoctrination Mills’ That Evilly Enlighten The Young
Via: Wonkette
Santorum continued his Knowledge Is Evil Tour this week with a visit to husband Glenn Beck’s radio program, where he went the farthest he’s gone yet — no guarantees that by summer’s end he won’t be recommending locking children in a dungeon with a Bible, some water and breadsticks i.e. the body of Christ for 18 years — in condemning higher education as an expensive and frightening thing that sucks Christianity right out of us, even those of us who are not Christian but had the potential to be until big heavy textbooks whalloped us over the head.
Santorum, in this hour-long verbal makeout session, basically compared college to a factory, and cited some probably invented statistic that “62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it,” which really is great news, if true.
Note: As the National Journal politely put it, Santorum “declined to cite a source for the figure.”
~
Anyway anyway, the worst thing about this is calling colleges “indoctrination mills.” INDOCTRINATION OF WHAT, PRAY TELL? A worldview? Ideas? Creativity? Awareness? Respect? Ambition? Keg stands? Sports? Dance parties?
“I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely … The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.”
