(1 of 2) Issa Compares His ALL-MALE Anti-Contraception Panel To Martin Luther King

Via: Think Progress

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) has been catching flack for holding a panel today relating to women’s access to birth control that featured zero women, but Issa won’t let the fact that few Americans agree with his position deter him. Taking to Twitter this evening, he fired back with a always-appropriate Martin Luther King Jr. comparison:

Democratic Women Boycott House Contraception Hearing After Republicans Prevent Women From Testifying

Via: Think Progress

This morning, Democrats tore into House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) for preventing women from testifying before a hearing examining the Obama administration’s new regulation requiring employers and insurers to provide contraception coverage to their employees. Republicans oppose the administration’s rule and have sponsored legislation that would allow employers to limit the availability of birth control to women.

Issa also dismissed the Democrats’ woman witness as a “college student’ who does not “have the appropriate credentials” to testify before his committee. (unlike of course, those who did testify – see above photo)

Again, you can make this shit up!

(2 of 2) MANY Catholic Universities, Hospitals Already Cover Contraception In Their Health Insurance Plans

Via: Think Progress

Catholic leaders and the GOP presidential candidates have intentionally distorted the Obama administration’s new rule requiring employers and insurers to provide reproductive health benefits at no additional cost sharing.

Conservatives are seeking a way to politically unite Republican voters around a social issue and portray the regulation as a big government intrusion into religious liberties. In reality, the mandate is modeled on existing rules in six states, exempts houses of worship and other religious nonprofits that primarily employ and serve people of faith, and offers employers a transitional period of one year to determine how best to comply with the rule.

It’s also nothing new. Twenty-eight states already require organizations that offer prescription insurance to cover contraception and since 98 PERCENT of Catholic women use birth control, MANY Catholic institutions offer the benefit to their employees.

For instance, a Georgetown University spokesperson told ThinkProgress yesterday that employees “have access to health insurance plans offered and designed by national providers to a national pool. These plans include coverage for birth control.”

(1 of 2) Conservative Pundit Compares Birth Control Mandate To Rise Of Nazi Germany

Via: Huffington Post

Conservative commentator Eric Metaxas (see photo) took the religious lobbyists’ argument against birth control coverage to a new extreme on MSNBC Tuesday morning, comparing the Obama administration’s new contraception mandate to the rise of Nazi Germany.

In [my] book, you read about what happened to an amazingly great country, called Germany,” he said in an on-air debate with NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Donna Crane. “I’m half German. Uh, in the early ’30s, little things were happening where the state was bullying the churches. No one spoke up. In the beginning, it always starts really, really small. We need to understand as America, as Americans, if we do not see this as a bright line in the sand, if you’re not a Catholic, if you use contraception, doesn’t matter. Because eventually, this kind of government overreach will affect you. If we don’t speak up, we’re gonna be in trouble.”
