Patrick Lott (R-NJ) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Huffington Post

Patrick Lott, Bernardsville Middle School assistant principal, has been arrested for allegedly recording boys showering at Immaculata High School in Somerset County, N.J., where he was a volunteer, the New Jersey Journal reports.

Lott was arrested last week after authorities used a Superior Court search warrant to find videos of the nude teenagers in his home.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano told the Journal that nine of the boys videotaped were under 16 years old. According to the report, authorities have notified a total of 22 victims.

Based on the results of the search warrant, CBS New York reports the videos were recorded over a span of nearly three years, beginning in 2008.

A high-ranking and respected educator at the middle school and in the community, Lott recently ran for the Somerville Borough Council on the Republican ticket, NBC New York Reports. His bid was unsuccessful.

Lott now faces charges including child endangerment. He is currently being held in the Somerset County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Amy Koch (R-MN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Princeton Union-Eagle

Former Republican Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch of Buffalo on Thursday, Dec. 22 expressed “deep regret” to her constituents, Republican Party members, and her family for engaging in a relationship with an unnamed Senate staffer.
This is the first statement from Koch about the relationship since the senator abruptly resigned her leadership post late last week, unleashing a scandal that enveloped the Senate Republican Caucus.
“I have made some mistakes and errors in judgment for which I am deeply sorry by engaging in a relationship with a Senate staffer,” said Koch in a statement.
A gay man in Minnesota has apologised on behalf of his community after a married state senator who opposed equal marriage rights had an “illicit affair” with a male member of her staff.

In an open letter to Republican state senator Amy Koch, John Medeiros said he was speaking for all gays and lesbians in the state when he regretted that their “selfish requests to marry those we love has cheapened and degraded traditional marriage so much that we caused you to stray from your own holy union”.

Greg Davis (R-MS) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: The Wonkette

Merry Dickcember, one and all!

How has this week’s garden-variety self-loathing closeted Republican politician managed to out himself?

Ha ha, the headline sort of gives it away, but meet Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, Mississippi who went on a taxpayer-funded shopping spree to the tune of $170,000 in booze, fancy meals and a TRIP TO A GAY SEX TOY STORE, in Canada.

The sexytime freebies lasted until a band of fun-hating auditors noticed there were, uh, five hundred pages of receipts for the mayor’s extracurricular activities and decided to have a peek at his credit card expenditures.

Right, so yeah, let’s start again: meet Greg Davis, a formerly-closeted gay dude who has never heard of cash.

And here’s another troubling thing Davis never heard of, this thing called “public records,” which allowed the media to get hold of the receipts after auditors handed them over to the City Council for review. DOUBLE SHIT.

From the frank-yet-oddly-named Commercial Appeal newspaper:

“At this point in my life and in my career, while I have tried to maintain separation between my personal and public life, it is obvious that this can no longer remain the case,” Davis said Thursday afternoon at his Southaven home. “While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual [Ed note: Huh?] — and still continue to be a very conservative individual — I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay.”

Aw. Well, a few points, maybe, for a bit of late-breaking honesty instead of trying to create some elaborate farcical excuse like “I just wanted to talk about baseball with the gay sex shop salesman.” We would actually *almost* feel sorry for him, except that:

As for the receipts, Davis, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2008 on a conservative, family-values platform, said he couldn’t discuss specifics on the advice of his attorney.

Suzi Schmidt (R-IL) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Daily Herald

Editor’s note: The 911 audio tapes have been edited to remove personal  identification information.

State Sen. Suzi Schmidt mentioned being a former Lake County Board chairman  and her “connections” on a December call asking a 911 dispatcher to ignore her  husband if he summoned help, according to a recording released Wednesday.

Monday’s call was the THIRD sheriff’s response to the couple’s Lake Villa  Township house since Dec. 25, 2010. Authorities also didn’t seek criminal  charges based on the domestic violence complaints from last December or Aug.  16.

Robert Schmidt declined to comment. Suzi Schmidt didn’t return calls, but  issued a statement late Wednesday afternoon that, in part, addressed the use of  her political status on the 911 recordings.

“On the 911 call, I identified myself — but I NEVER intended to  inappropriately use my title. However, I apologize if any of my comments during  this very emotional time seem inappropriate,” she said.

Suzi Schmidt, elected to a 2-year state senate term in 2010, called a 911  dispatcher at 9:55 a.m. Dec. 25 because she believed her husband soon would be  doing the same.

“Hi Allison, this is Suzi Schmidt. {Did I mention?}, I was the Lake County Board chairman for  10 years,” she said on the 911 recording obtained through a Freedom of  Information Act request. “Listen, I’m having a little problem with my husband  right now.”

“Like a domestic-type problem?” the dispatcher inquired.

Suzi Schmidt said all was fine at the home (outside the front door, not  so good), then provided some detail on what  she wanted from the 911 dispatcher.

“If he calls, Bob Schmidt, you can ignore him.

Of COURSE, I just caught him with another woman, so that’s why I’m a little upset,” she said.

Suzi Schmidt, 60, said she locked out her husband on that frigid Christmas Day and that’s why he might try to seek help from police.

“He might (call), except he’s kind of afraid of me because he knows I have connections,” she told the emergency dispatcher.

Republican Suzi Schmidt of Lake Villa Township, with her husband, Robert, and  mother Lou Reyes (possibly, the other woman?) as they await election results on the night she defeated  Democrat Michael Bond for the Senate District 31 seat.
