Joe Manchin (D-WV): Democrats May Consider ‘Nuclear Option’ (See GIF) On Debt Limit

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) suggested Sunday that some Senate Democrats may be willing to use what’s known as the “nuclear option” to eliminate the need for Republican support to pass a bill to raise the debt limit and end the government shutdown.

Responding to a comment made earlier by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who noted that Senate Democrats have “several somethings” to help them prevent a U.S. default, Manchin said, “I would assume that they might be referring to the so-called nuclear option, if you have to use that basically to keep this country from falling into default.”

The nuclear option refers to a Senate rules change that would require ONLY 51 votes to end debate and call a measure to a vote, preventing the possibility of a Republican filibuster.

personal thought:

WHAT A CONCEPT? a simple majority of 51 votes to call a measure to a vote.

Do it!

Field of Dreams 2

Carlton Fisk was arrested for DUI on Monday evening in Illinois, according to reports.

Police sources informed TMZ and various other outlets that Fisk’s vehicle was discovered in a cornfield. (see photo)

“Around 7:20 (Monday) night, we received a couple of calls about a vehicle in a field,” New Lenox Deputy Chief Bob Pawlisz told ESPN Chicago. “When officers went over there, they found Mr. Fisk unconscious behind the wheel.”

After reportedly being woken by police, Fisk agreed to be taken to a nearby hospital, per WLS-TV Chicago.

New Lenox police told WLS-TV that an open vodka bottle was found inside of Fisk’s F-150 truck. The Chicago Tribune reports that Fisk was treated at Silver Cross Hospital before posting bail.

The bond was $300, per the Boston Herald, and Fisk is due in court in November 29.

The 64-year-old former catcher was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.

John Cabello (R-IL) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Huffington Post

Illinois State Rep. John Cabello (R-Rockford) reportedly told a tea party group earlier this month that he’s not clear whether his state’s civil union law applies to humans, or if “somebody can get married to their dog” as well.

The comments were made during the Rockford Tea Party forum on October 6, according to a Wednesday report by Kate Sosin at Windy City Times. Video of Cabello’s speech was published to YouTube, but the paper said that access to the footage was revoked after they called the teabagger group for comment.

Reached by Raw Story, Cabello’s aides had no comment, explaining they hadn’t seen the report. No calls were returned after a copy of the report was forwarded to both his district office and his office at the capital, and a message left with his campaign went unanswered.

His opponent’s campaign, however, was happy to talk.

“It’s highly offensive that Mr. Cabello would compare homosexual relationships with bestiality,” Steve Spagnolo, campaign manager for Carl Wasco (D), told Raw Story. “It’s nonsensical at least and has no place in the realm of public officials saying such outrageously offensive things. More than one out of every 200 Rockford city households have a member that is a lesbian or gay individual and to so blatantly offend those individuals is outrageous.”

Suzi Schmidt (R-IL) – for the 2nd time in less than a year, the ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Wonkette

Illinois crazytime state lawmaker update alert newsbreak: GOP state Senator Suzi Schmidt, the curiously thrilled human pictured above, was arrested for, uh, “damaging” an animal feed bag belonging to the neighbors and was later served with an “emergency stalking no contact order.”

From the local ABC News station:

The state senator was arrested on a warrant when a deputy spotted her at a Menards store in Gurnee Tuesday. She is charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to property. Both are misdemeanors.

Schmidt is accused of damaging a neighbor’s animal feed bag last week, and there reportedly was some kind of argument.

Authorities say she has been harassing the neighbors for the last year. A court order shows she sent several harassing texts and emails to the neighbors and allegedly had a confrontation with the neighbors’ 7-year-old son.

Authorities also outfitted the Lake Villa Republican with an emergency stalking, no-contact order, concerning her neighbors.

Yeah, we were hoping for a few more details around that whole “accused of damaging a neighbor’s animal feed bag” part of it, too.

But that is why God gave you imaginations, children!

And Illinois politicians.

Her first GOP Moron of the Day’ (September 20, 2011)

Q: Do you think she will be honored with a third ‘GOP Moron of the Day’?

A: Oh hell, yeah!

“Quote of the Day”

“The Democratic Party promises groups of people everything. They want the Hispanic vote, they want Hispanics to be dependent on government, just like they got African Americans dependent on government. That’s their game.”

Walsh goes on to say that civil rights activist Jesse Jackson “would be out of work if [African Americans] weren’t dependent on government.”

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL)

Mike Bost (R-IL) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Wonkette

Dance party on the Illinois House floor!

Here we have what appears to be state Rep. Mike Bost busting a hot move while his anxious-looking colleague in the white shirt …claps along to keep time?

What fun! Someone sure is having a tough time waiting for summer vacation to start! Oh, just kidding. Politics is never fun. Rep. Bost is in the middle of an apoplectic temper tantrum over… pension reform, according to the news reports.

Bost, a Republican, lost it after a lengthy bill proposing to shift the burden of teacher pension costs away from the state and onto local school districts was brought up for discussion by Democrat speaker of the House Michael Madigan only a few hours after it passed out of committee and before Mike Bost had time to read the bill.

This seems like a fair complaint!

This is also, shrieketh Mike Bost, procedural tyranny on an order not seen since the Egyptians rejected Moses’ petition for the freedom of the Israelites on the basis of some typos:

This guy is one match short of setting his own hair on fire.

We take back what we said before. Politics is always fun.
