Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

House Republicans are continuing to play hardball in negotiations over the spending bill that precipitated the government shutdown on Oct. 1, apparently out of fear that compromise would weaken their power.

WE’RE NOT GOING TO BE DISRESPECTED, Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) told The Washington Examiner. “We have to get something out of this. AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT EVEN IS.”

Come 2014, vote this ‘dumb-f*ck’ out, too!

Jack Schaap – ‘Xristian Xrazy of the Day’

Via: Raw Story

The former pastor of a Indiana megachurch who is awaiting sentencing in a sex crimes case told a 17-year-old girl that Jesus wanted her to have sexual relations with him.

Federal prosecutors on Wednesday released letters in which former First Baptist Church pastor Jack Schaap explained that the underage girl she should have sex with him because it was part of God’s plan.

“In our ‘fantasy talk,’ you have affectionately spoken of being ‘my wife,’” Schaap wrote to the girl. “That is exactly what Christ desires for us. He wants to marry us + become eternal lovers!”

Last year, Schaap pleaded guilty having the girl transported across state lines into Michigan so he could have sex with her. Prosecutors said that the former pastor had tricked church members into bringing the girl to his cabin in Cadillac, Michigan because she was “in an extremely vulnerable state” and needed to spend extended time alone with him.

He also allegedly had sex with the girl at his property in Crete, Illinois and at his office at the megachurch.

Letters provided by prosecutors showed that Schaap told his victim that he wanted to put her on a “better path of living — that’s what we call Righteousness.”

He told me to confide in him, to trust him, and he made me feel safe and comfortable around him as a man of God,” the girl wrote in documents provided by the government. “[Schaap] preyed on that trust and my vulnerability.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jill Koster defended the government’s request that Schaap ONLY receive a 10-year sentence by pointing out that he had agreed to plead guilty before the charges had even been filed.

‘Dick’ Mourdock – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Huffington Post

Indiana GOP U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock declared Tuesday night he opposes aborting pregnancies conceived in rape because “it is something that God intended to happen.”

Debating Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) in their final Senate race showdown, a questioner asked them and Libertarian candidate Andrew Horning to explain their views on abortion.

All three said they were anti-abortion. But Mourdock went the further, putting himself in territory near Missouri GOP Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin, the anti-abortion congressman who infamously asserted that women don’t get pregnant from “legitimate rape.”

“The only exception I have to have an abortion is in the case of the life of the mother,” said Mourdock, the Tea Party-backed state treasurer. “I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize life is that gift from God. I think that even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”

personal thought:

If the people of Indiana heard an iman from Afghanistan or Pakistan say, ‘{RAPE) is something that God intended to happen’, they would be outraged.

But from the ‘Dick’, maybe not.

Bob Morris (R-IN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day”

Via: Huffington Post

An Indiana lawmaker has decided not to support a resolution celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts because:

1. he feels the group is a “radicalized organization” that “sexualizes” young girls

2. promotes homosexuality.

3. Morris said he found online allegations that the Girl Scouts are a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood

4. encourage sex

5. alllows transgender females to join

6. The FACT that first lady Michelle Obama is honorary president should give lawmakers pause before they endorse the Girl Scouts.

7. Those considered role models by the Girl Scouts are all feminists, lesbians, or Communists”

8. Claims that troops are no longer allowed to pray or sing Christmas Carols.

Veneta Becker – (R-IN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Huffington Post

A state lawmaker in Indiana has introduced a bill that would set specific “performance standards” for renditions of the national anthem.

The legislation, drafted by state Sen. Vaneta Becker (R), creates guidelines for what constitutes an “appropriate” performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The law would apply to all performers at events sponsored by public schools and state universities, who would be required to sign a contract acknowledging the rules. Anyone intentionally violating the law could be slapped with a $25 fine.

So what constitutes an inappropriate performance? Becker says the law wouldn’t apply to performers who simply lack talent, but she told the Indianapolis Star that she expects performances to hew to the traditional, “the way that we normally have it sung or heard throughout most of our state and our country.”

The guidelines would be determined by the State Department of Education and the Commission for Higher Education.

Becker told the Star that A CONSTITUENT had raised concern about the issue after a local school program supposedly parodied the words of the anthem in an objectionable way.

(I-64, I-71, I-75) Kentucky Bridges – “Just Say NO!”

Via: Washington Post

Outdated and overcrowded, the Brent Spence Bridge linking Ohio and Kentucky carries hundreds of thousands of vehicles a day and billions in goods a year — 4 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product, by some estimates.

On Thursday night, it also became part of President Barack Obama’s pitch for his plan to create jobs, an example of a lagging infrastructure fix plucked from the states of Republican leadership in Congress.

“There are private construction companies all across America just waiting to get to work,” Obama said in his address to Congress urging support for his jobs plan. “There’s a bridge that needs repair between Ohio and Kentucky that’s on one of the busiest trucking routes in North America.”

The bridge carries traffic from Interstates 75 and 71, along with substantial amounts of freight, over the river. Overhaul is expected to cost well over $2 billion and take years, but despite years of planning, the project still lacks all the funding needed from the federal government and the two states.

Yesterday, ThinkProgress published a report detailing Republican Congressional leadership’s opposition to infrastructure investments even as structural deficiencies in bridges and roadways persist in their home states. Among those is Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, where 34 percent of bridges are considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.

The Sherman Minton Bridge, one of three major bridges spanning the Ohio River between Louisville, KY and southern Indiana, was among the Kentucky bridges listed as deficient.

And last night, the Sherman Minton Bridge was closed after further deficiencies, including cracks, were found in a load-bearing part of its structure. The Louisville Courier-Journal reports:

The Sherman Minton Bridge was closed late Friday afternoon and will remain shut down indefinitely after officials discovered cracks in the span.

Phil ‘I don’t know’ Hinkle (IN-R) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’; possibly longer

Via: Indy Star

State Rep. Phil Hinkle admitted Tuesday that he paid a young man $80 to have a good time. But Hinkle insisted he isn’t gay and doesn’t know why he did it.

He said that he understood why he’s being stripped of his committee chairmanships and that he won’t seek re-election. But he said he will not resign, despite House Speaker Brian Bosma’s call Tuesday to do so.

And he said he did nothing illegal with — or to — the young man and that he himself was the victim of a crime. But he said he would not file a police report.

Hinkle’s version of what happened that night in Room 2610 at the JW Marriott hotel differs greatly from the version provided by the young man and his sister.

Kameryn Gibson, the 18-year-old who said he was looking for a “sugga daddy” in the Craigslist posting, told The Star that he tried to leave the room that night and called his sister Megan after Hinkle identified himself as a lawmaker. He also said Hinkle tried to keep him from leaving, exposed himself and then — after his sister arrived — offered them $100 cash, an iPad and a Blackberry to keep quiet.

Hinkle’s version: He never exposed himself and never offered anything to the Gibsons to keep quiet. Instead, he said, Kameryn Gibson stole those items when Hinkle was in the bathroom.

“These people,” Hinkle said, “are lying through their teeth.”

Kameryn and Megan Gibson stood by their story Tuesday.

Those people didn’t erect me,” he said. “The constituents did.”

Hinkle said he decided in December that he wouldn’t seek a seventh term serving portions of Wayne and Pike townships. He also said that while he admits he made mistakes, resigning would be an acknowledgement that everything the Gibsons told The Star was true.

But why, so many have asked, did he even make the email arrangement in the first place, using the email address — phinkle46@comcast.net — he had listed on his legislative website, no less?

“I don’t know,” Hinkle said. “I’m telling you, I don’t know.”

Usually he’s in control of his actions, he said, but something changed.

“I was on the road to self-destruction,” he said, “and I don’t know why.”

Hinkle said he’s not excusing his actions, which he called “stupid, but not illegal.” Both Hinkle and Kameryn Gibson say that money exchanged hands but that neither engaged in a sex act.

Hinkle also said Tuesday he’s not a homosexual.

“I say that emphatically,” he said. “I’M NOT GAY.”

For now, he said, he’s focusing on talking to professionals (First Lady Marcus, perhaps?) “who understand that gray matter between your ears.” He wouldn’t be more specific about what kinds of professional help he is seeking or even why specifically he thinks he needs help.

CORRECTION: “Those people didn’t elect me,” he said. “The constituents did”; my bad.
