Before you think, $.58 per hour, is TERRIBLE!
Based on the ‘historic standard of living’ the $.58 per hour would be equivalent to $7.81 per hour in 2014 dollars.
The Federal Minimum wage is currently $7.25 – NOW that’s TERRIBLE!

the ‘Working Poor’
Personal thought:
There is no question there is ‘Working Poor’ throughout the world.
However, for an ‘industrialized country’: our $7.25 minium wage, and frightfully expensive health care, makes us unique, and not in a good way.

Rich Guy CEO: 99 Percent Should STOP COMPLAINING!
Bud Konheim has a message for all of the 99 percenters: You’re luckier than you think.
Konheim, CEO and co-founder of luxury-fashion company Nicole Miller, said on CNBC’s “Quawk Box” on Wednesday that Americans not in the top 1 percent would be considered wealthy in most of the world. He said the 99ers should stop complaining and understand how lucky they are.
“We’ve got a country that the poverty level is wealth in 99 percent of the rest of the world,” he said. “So we’re talking about woe is me, woe is us, woe is this.” He added that “the guy that’s making, oh my God, he’s making $35,000 a year, why don’t we try that out in India or some countries we can’t even name. China, anyplace, the guy is wealthy.”

Obama To Raise Minimum Wage For Federal Contract Workers By EXECUTIVE ORDER
Via: Huffington Post
President Barack Obama will announce during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address that he’s raising the minimum wage for workers under federal contracts to $10.10 per hour, an administration official told The Huffington Post.
The new policy, to be instituted via executive order, may affect hundreds of thousands of workers whose jobs are supported by federal dollars. The move is designed in part to ratchet up pressure on Congress to pass legislation raising the minimum wage for ALL WORKERS. The current federal minimum wage stands at $7.25 per hour, and hasn’t been raised since 2009, after the last of a series of increases signed into law by then-President George W. Bush.
The new executive order is part of a broader pledge from the White House to pursue policies that don’t rely on congressional approval. What other policies are in the works, the administration has refused to say.

600 Economists Now Back A $10.10 Minimum Wage
Via: Huffington Post
It’s about time to raise the minimum wage, at least according to 600 economists.
The group, which includes SEVEN Nobel laureates, attached their name to a letter released earlier this month by the Economic Policy Institute urging lawmakers to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. In the two weeks since the left-leaning think tank first published the letter, the list of signatories has grown from 75 to more than 600.
~
Raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would LIFT about 5 MILLION AMERICANS OUT of POVERTY, according to a study released earlier this month by University of Massachusetts-Amherst economist Arindrajit Dube, who signed the EPI letter.

Walmart – do the frickin’ math!
Personal thought:
People compain about people collecting public assistance: food stamps, medicaid, etc., well fine.
But the same people NEVER complain about big corporations, such as Walmart, under-paying their workers.
Well, STOP the CORPORATE WELFARE – Raise the Miminum Wage.
.
It’s one or the other.
“I for one an getting tired of helping highly profitable companies pay their workers”
