WOW, now here’s an idea! – McDonald’s Tells Workers To Avoid Fast Food

Oops, it happened again.

McDonald’s employee resources website is giving out even more odd advice for workers. This time, it’s about the industry it helped make ubiquitous—fast food.

“Fast foods are quick, reasonably priced, and readily available alternatives to home cooking. While convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle, fast foods are typically high in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt and may put people at risk for becoming overweight,” reads one post on the site, which includes a picture of a hamburger and fries, two items that the fast-food giant specializes in selling.

Another post labels a meal with a cheeseburger and fries as the “unhealthy choice” and one with a submarine sandwich and salad as the “healthier choice,” noting that it’s more of a challenge to eat healthy when visiting a fast-food place. A separate post writes “it is hard to eat a healthy diet when you eat at fast-food restaurants often,” (Yeah, No shit Sherlock!) adding that large portions make it easy to overeat.

The site also advises people to limit how many fries they eat.

Possibly the next WARNINGS:

– EXXON – Buying out gas contributes to Global Warming.

– VISA – Using our card could lead you to personal bankruptcy.

– Republican Party – We don’t believe ‘Tax Cuts’ for the rich will help you, but vote for us anyway.

McDonald’s gives workers advice on tipping au pairs, trainers, dog-walkers

Via: NBC News

Fast-food giant McDonald’s  has committed another employee advice blunder, listing pricey  suggestions for tipping au pairs, personal fitness trainers and pool  cleaners on its worker resource website.

This advice comes as fast-food workers from 100 cities across the  nation push for $15-an-hour pay, a far cry from the wages most earn, in a  mass strike on Thursday.

The tipping guide from etiquette maven Emily Post on McDonald’s website  lists several high-ticket suggestions for givers during the holiday  season, including “a gift from your family (or ONE WEEK’s PAY), plus a  small gift from your child” for an au pair, “one day’s pay” for a  housekeeper and “cost of one cleaning” for a pool cleaner.

The site also lists suggestions for dog walkers, massage therapists and personal fitness trainers.

In an email to CNBC, McDonald’s spokeswoman Lisa McComb (SeePhoto) said: “This is  content provided by a third-party partner and quotes from one of the  best-known etiquette gurus, Emily Post. We continue to review the  resource and will ask the vendor to make changes as needed.”

The tone-deaf advice is the latest is a series of gaffes surrounding  its employee resource site.

Last month, McDonald’s suggested employees  get out of holiday season debt by returning unopened purchases.

Earlier, it published a budget guide that included no money for heat and $20 a month for health care.

McDonald’s Tells Workers To Take Vacations Many Can’t Afford

Via: Huffinton Post

McDonald’s is encouraging its workers to take time off to stay healthy, even as many of them can’t afford to take that advice.

The fast food giant’s personal wellness website, called the McResource Line, is now offering workers guidance on how to eat healthy, manage stress and get enough sleep. “Don’t let the distraction of your money worries prevent you from getting regular exercise, eating healthy and getting enough sleep,” the website says. The site also offers dieting advice — telling workers to break their food into small pieces to eat less and stay full — that could appear insensitive to a low-paid workforce that sometimes relies on food stamps.

Some of the tips on the McResource website could be “taken out of context,” but the site as whole was intended to be an employee resource., Marie Antoinette, director of U.S. media relations for McDonald’s, wrote in an email to HuffPost.

Jeanette Lynn, a 26-year-old McDonald’s worker in Durham, N.C., told The Huffington Post that she has worked for a franchise for two years and gets no paid vacation, holidays or sick days. Working less than 20 hours a week for $7.25 an hour, Lynn has NEVER gotten a raise and has a hard time supporting her three sons on fast food wages

“We make $7.25 an hour,” Lynn said. “Why in the world would we take vacation if we already aren’t getting paid enough?” Lynn said she recently had her hours cut and is planning to apply for public assistance to supplement her income.

FLORIDA – McDonald’s Soda Theft Gets Mark Abaire Arrested On FELONY Charge

Via: Huffington Post

It was the ultimate heist: ask for a free cup for water, but fill it with soda.

That’s the alleged plot that 52-year-old Mark Abaire hatched on Thursday before he was caught by Florida McDonald’s employees and charged with felony theft, the Naples Daily News reported.

Abaire — whose aliases include Red, Clown Red and Clown — entered the Naples franchise at about 10 p.m. and asked for a cup of water. Then he allegedly snuck some pop into the cup, despite a conversation with an employee that he couldn’t do so, the Sun Sentinel reported.

The soda was valued at $1.

“Clown Red” allegedly refused to leave the burger joint, so a manager called cops.

Abaire was charged with felony petty theft because he had previous theft convictions, among other crimes. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of trespassing and disorderly conduct.

He faces FIVE YEARS in PRISON and a $5,000 fine.

personal thought:

5 years? – well, I’m pleased to see Florida no longer has a budget short-fall.

(2 of 2) We Are the 99 Percent

I am 19 years old and work full time at McDonalds. I had cancer at the age of 18 and have all these medical bills to pay. I barely make enough money to pay the bills.

If it wasn’t for my free meal I get each time I work I wouldn’t be able to eat.

I am the 99%

We are the 99 Percent.

We are getting kicked out of our homes.

We are forced to choose between groceries and rent.

We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution.

We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we’re working at all.

We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything.

We are the 99 percent.

Brought to you by the people who occupy wall street.

Why will YOU occupy?

(1 of 2) Board of Trade Offers Job Counseling Advice for Occupy Chicago

Via: Chicagoist

Someone at the Chicago Board of Trade issued another message to the Occupy Chicago protesters by blanketing them with these McDonald’s job applications. The protesters are understandably offended by both the message and by the hundreds of pieces of new litter around them.

First the CBOT folks posted “We are the 1%” in their eighth floor windows a few weeks ago.

This is the second time they tossed flyers down from their ivory tower, too. They tossed down “We Are the 1% Paying For This” on Oct. 21.
