Remember the closing days of the 2012 presidential campaign when Mitt Romney ran that explosive ad suggesting Chrysler was going to stop building Jeeps in Ohio and move production to China?

The one that got “Four Pinocchios” from the fact-checker at the Washington Post?

The one Romney himself echoed in a speech he delivered near the Jeep plant in Ohio: “I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China.” Right afterward, Meat Loaf performed.

~~~
Anyway, that Jeep plant? It didn’t move to China. And it’s actually doing quite well.
No, scratch that: It’s going gangbusters.
Demand for Jeeps is so high that Chrysler workers are clocking 60 hours a week and still can’t keep up. So according to the Toledo Blade, the company is planning on hiring up to 1,000 part-time workers—American workers, in Ohio—so they can crank out enough Jeeps to meet the demand.
Walmart – Holding Thanksgiving Food Drive For Its Own Workers
2
Via: Huffington Post
One Ohio Walmart is asking employees to donate food for other workers who are struggling so much they can’t afford to buy a Thanksgiving meal for their families.
The Canton, Ohio, store is holding a food drive for employees, according to a pair of photos circulated by OUR Walmart, an advocacy organization with ties to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Signs attached to bins located in employee backrooms ask workers to “donate food items here so associates in need can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.”
The food drive underscores the struggles that advocates for low-wage workers say Walmart employees face on a regular basis. Most Walmart store employees make less than $25,000 per year, according to a calculation by The Huffington Post’s Dave Jamieson earlier this year. That relatively low wage can mean that Walmart workers end up relying on means other than pay — like the food drive — to get by.
One Walmart’s low wages could cost taxpayers $900,000 per year because workers use social safety net programs like food stamps and government-subsidized health care to make ends meet, according to a May study from congressional Democrats.
Waylon J. Smithers Jr., a Walmart representative, told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, which first reported the Canton food drive, that the donations are indicative of a supportive employee culture — NOT PROOF of LOW WAGES. (Of course, not!)
Mayor Bloomberg endorses President Obama
Via: Huffington Post
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorsed President Barack Obama for reelection on Thursday, Bloomberg TV reported and The Huffington Post confirmed.
The mayor, an Independent, did not endorse a candidate in the 2008 election and hadn’t seem poised to do so this time around either. But he said in an op ed published on his website that his eagerness to see action on climate change legislation persuaded him to back a second term for the president. Bloomberg also explained that while he admired Mitt Romney, his stance on a number of social issues gave him pause.
“I believe Mitt Romney is a good and decent man, and he would bring valuable business experience to the Oval Office. He understands that America was built on the promise of equal opportunity, not equal results. In the past he has also taken sensible positions on immigration, illegal guns, abortion rights and health care. But he has reversed course on all of them, and is even running against the health-care model he signed into law in Massachusetts.”
. . .
President Obama said he was honored to receive the endorsement.
“While we may not agree on every issue, Mayor Bloomberg and I agree on the most important issues of our time — that the key to a strong economy is investing in the skills and education of our people, that immigration reform is essential to an open and dynamic democracy, and that climate change is a threat to our children’s future, and we owe it to them to do something about it,” he said in a statement.Just as importantly, we agree that whether we are Democrats, Republicans, or independents, there is only one way to solve these challenges and move forward as a nation — together.”
Personal thought:
‘Good and Decent’?
I don’t believe LYING in ads about Chrysler plans to move operations to China is a ‘Good and Decent’ thing to do.
Do the RIGHT thing – Re-Elect Obama/Biden!
personal thought:
An estimated $6,000 a year voucher you can use to buy private insurance isn’t goin’ to cut it.
I’m not even sure if ANY insurance companies will cover you pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or heart problems.
I think seniors will be totally fk’d with a Romney/Ryan administration.
Protect Social Seurity and Medicare, Re-Elect Obama/Biden!
Q: Too Stupid to Vote? – A: No
Via: Charlie P. Pierce – Esquire
According to the good folks at Public Policy Polling — and why they  asked this question, I never will know.
~
OHIO:
15 percent of registered Republicans in Ohio think Willard Romney deserves more credit for killing Osama bin Laden than  does the president. Another 47 percent aren’t really sure who does.
~
NORTH CAROLINA:
29 percent of them give the credit to Romney while a WHOPPING 56  percent of them find it too difficult to answer the question of whether the  credit should go to the guy who actually gave the order, or to the guy who  forgot to mention the troops in his acceptance speech not long ago.
Happy 9/11, America!
Advantage – Obama!
Via: NJ.com
President Barack Obama heads out of the national political conventions with a much clearer path to winning, top advisers to Mitt Romney privately concede.
The Romney campaign, while pleasantly surprised by Obama’s lackluster prime-time performance, said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers — most glaringly in Ohio — are working in the president’s favor.
“Their map has many more routes to victory,” said a top Republican official. Two officials intimately involved in the GOP campaign said Ohio leans clearly in Obama’s favor now, with a HIGH single-digit edge, based on their internal tracking numbers of conservative groups.
Romney can still win the presidency if he loses Ohio, but it’s extremely difficult.
NOTE: Ohio has voted for the winner, in the LAST ELEVEN elections!
The Obama and Romney campaigns anticipate little movement in national polls before the first debate on Oct. 3, which both see as the most important day of this campaign. (maybe Romney can have a stand-in, but who?)
~
They also see eye-to-eye on their belief the election will come down to whether Romney can persuade voters he understands the problems of ordinary people and that his solutions are at least marginally better (marginally? – TERRIFIC!) for turning things around economically.
Breaking News – Romney Spends Most Of Factory Visit Yelling At Employees To Work Harder
NORTHFIELD, OH—Sources at the Gregson-Turner Paper Co. confirmed that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spent the vast majority of his visit to the company’s Ohio-based factory Tuesday yelling at employees to work harder.
Romney, who said the stop was an essential part of his tour of America’s manufacturing sector, arrived at the facility at approximately 10 a.m. and within minutes began mercilessly hounding workers throughout the plant to “get their acts together” and “start pounding out some paper, c’mon.”
“You people have been at work for nearly four hours and this is all you have to show for it? With all of this equipment?” a frustrated Romney reportedly shouted from the center of the factory while standing near several dozens crates of the day’s completed paper supply. “What a truly pathetic performance. You guys better think about tightening things up around here fast, because what I’m seeing right now is completely unacceptable.”
~
“Now, someone like you we can easily fire,” Romney was overheard telling an employee removing paper bales from the mill’s loading space. “How exactly are you essential? No, honestly, give me one good reason—just one—why you should have a paying job here. Because I look at you and all I see is a pink slip and an extra 25 grand a year that could be funneled somewhere else.”
“I’m telling you, I’ve seen machines do your job way, way faster and for free,” added Romney, jutting a finger into the man’s face. “Remember that. And wipe that stupid look off your face.”
According to company officials, Romney proceeded to outline how dozens of jobs across the paper mill were unnecessary, noting that terminations would be required because, while there were much-needed managerial roles to be filled, current employees “lacked even a basic education” and could not seriously be considered for them.
~
See, if I were in charge, I’d probably just move the entire plant to Taiwan and save us all a big chunk of change,” Romney said. “It’s stupid to overpay a massive, bloated staff like this when someone faster and younger can do all this overseas for a fraction of the price. That’s just common business sense. You’d seriously have to be an idiot not to see that, but hey, maybe that’s exactly what I’m dealing with here: idiots.”
Thanks for all of your support again, guys,” Romney added as he left the factory.
