Romney decided against VP pick Christie because he was disgusted by his weight

1

Via: examiner.com

During the 2012 presidential election, there was heavy (HEAVY?) speculation on who Mitt Romney would pick as his running mate. While it ended up being Rep. Paul Ryan, many thought it would be governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie.

Chris Christie has been a popular governor of a traditionally blue state in New Jersey and has found a balance between conservatives and liberals that many politicians can’t seem to grasp. Christie’s biggest challenge comes from the left of the Democratic party, as expected, but also from the right of his own Republican party. Many within the fanatical Tea Party wing of the GOP see Christie as too liberal or too moderate and have been critical of his relationship with President Obama following Hurricane Sandy’s devastation of the Garden State in October of 2012.

In the new book ‘Double Down,’ the sequel to 2008’s Game Change, authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann take readers behind the scenes of the 2012 election and reveal many interesting plot points. According to the book, one reason why Romney decided against choosing Christie as his Vice President was due to Christie’s size and weight issues. Romney has been known as a someone who is health conscious and Christie’s lack of interest in physical fitness bothered Romney to the point that he would often mock the New Jersey governor in front of his aides and staff.

“Romney marveled at Christie’s girth, his difficulties in making his way down the narrow aisle of the campaign bus…

Watching a video of Christie without his suit jacket on, Romney cackled to his aides, ‘Guys! Look at that!'”

‘Shallow Hal’ would’ve picked Christie.

Romney CONTINUES to ‘Lie Like a Rug’! (SEE PHOTO)

His infamous 47 percent remarks were taken out of context, Mitt Romney told The Washington Post’s Dan Balz in an interview published Sunday.

Asked about the oft-cited quote that 47 percent of Americans can’t be persuaded to take personal responsibility, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee said, “Actually, I didn’t say that …That’s how it began to be perceived, and so I had to ultimately respond to the perception, because perception is reality.”

At a May 2012 closed-to-the-press fundraiser in Florida, Romney said, “And so my job is not to worry about those people — I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. What I have to do is convince the 5 to 10 percent in the center that are independents, that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon in some cases emotion, whether they like the guy or not, what it looks like.”

In case you missed it:

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what … who are dependent upon government (veterans, seniors, minorities, the poor, . . .), who believe that they are victims. … These are people who pay no income tax. … and so my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

(2 of 2) Gabriel Gomez (R-MA) – ‘GOP Genius of the Day’

Massachusetts Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez (R) criticized Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) for his remarks on rape and pregnancy, calling the congressman a “moron” for claiming that “the incidence of rape resulting in pregancy are very low.”

“I think that he’s a MORON and he proves that stupid has no specific political affiliation,” Gomez told ABC News on Wednesday. “I have no idea what goes into the mind of a MORON like that … These kinds of comments only come from a moron and they shouldn’t be tolerated one bit.”

Mitt Romney: Hurricane Sandy ‘Didn’t Come At The Right Time’

1

Via: Huffington Post

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Hurricane Sandy — a major storm that pummeled the East Coast in October 2012, just before Election Day — “didn’t come at the right time.”

“I can tell you the hurricane didn’t come at the right time,” Romney told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Friday.

Sandy caused 159 deaths and between $50 and $100 billion in damage.

After the storm hit, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) and President Barack Obama formed an infamous bipartisan bond, with the two working on recovery efforts and touring the storm’s wreckage together in the days just before the election.

Schlafly advises Republicans: IGNORE HISPANICS and ‘reach out to… white voters’

1

Via: Raw Story

Conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly says Republicans are making a mistake by trying to court Hispanics with comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

“I think that’s a great myth because the Hispanics who come in like this are going to vote Democrat,” Schlafly told the Focus Today radio program in a clip obtained by Right Wing Watch on Wednesday. “And there is not the slightest bit of evidence they are going to vote Republican.”

“And the people the Republicans should reach out to are the white votes — the white voters who didn’t vote in the last election, and there are millions of them,” she advised. (hey, at least a hundred thousand!)

“The answer is SELF-DEPORTATION, which is people decide they can do better by going home because they can’t find work here because they don’t have legal documentation to allow them to work here”.

“He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life,” Tagg Romney (photo: FAR right) told the paper.

“He had no desire to … run. If he could have found someone else to take his place … he would have been ecstatic to step aside.”

Hey, what about Michele ‘bat-shit insane’ Bachmann? Or, Herman ‘hold the sausage’ Cain? Or, ‘Frothy’ Santorum?

Well, I believe the GOP wingnuts who supported them during the campaign, thought they were eminently qualified.

Willard Romney (MI-UT-MA-CA-Cayman Islands) ‘GOP Moron of the YEAR’

Via: NYT

A week after losing the election to President Obama, Mitt Romney blamed his overwhelming electoral loss on what he said were big “gifts” that the president had bestowed on loyal Democratic constituencies, including young voters, African-Americans and Hispanics.

In a conference call on Wednesday afternoon with his national finance committee, Mr. Romney said that the president had followed the “old playbook” of wooing specific interest groups  — “especially the African-American community, the Hispanic community and young people,” Mr. Romney explained — with targeted gifts and initiatives.

“In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups,” Mr. Romney said.
