Marsh ‘Cheap Shoes’ Blackburn (R-TN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Raw Story

Rep. Marsh ‘Cheap Shoes’ Blackburn (R-TN) (the NEW, Michele ‘bat-shit insane Bachmann) warned on Thursday that President Barack Obama could soon TAKE AWAY the FREEDOM to PURCHASE CHEAP SHOES if his health care reform law was allowed to stand.

At a House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday, the Tennessee Republican had grilled Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius because the Affordable Care Act had forced insurers to upgrade some policies that did not meet new MINIMUM government standards.

“Some people like to drive a Ford, not a Ferrari,” Blackburn had quipped at the hearing. “And some people like to drink out of a red Solo cup, not a crystal stem. You’re taking away their choice.”

personal thought:

Imagine that, insurance companies having to conform to ‘MINIMUM government standards’.

My Gawd, what will be next, the ‘banking industry’?

Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Think Progress

Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) told his mistress to get an abortion for the sake of his marriage, despite his pro-life views, in a conversation obtained by the Huffington Post. Rep. DesJarlais, who supported the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” — a bill that included “forcible rape” language in one of its early drafts — demanded that his lover end her pregnancy, saying, “You told me you’d have an abortion, and now we’re getting too far along without one.”

The lawmaker has faced accusations of hypocrisy before; although he voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, he later celebrated the construction of a health clinic in his district funded wholly by Obamacare.

personal thought

‘For the sake of his marriage’, it’s nice to see he believes in the ‘sanctitiy of marrige’, if nothing else.

Kelly Keisling (R-TN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Huffington Post

A Republican member of the Tennessee state legislature emailed constituents Tuesday morning with a rumor circulating in conservative circles that President Barack Obama is planning to stage a fake assassination attempt in an effort to stop the 2012 election from happening.

Rep. Kelly Keisling {See photo} (R-Birdbrain) sent an email from his state email account to constituents containing a rumor that Obama and the Department of Homeland Security are planning a series of events that could lead to the imposition of “martial law” and delay the election.

Among the events hypothesized in the email is a staged assassination attempt on the president that would lead to civil unrest in urban areas and martial law.

Keisling appears to have forwarded a more widely circulated email from Joe Angione, a FLORIDA-based conservative blogger. Angione prefaces the rumor by saying it has not been confirmed but likewise notes it has not been denied.

The ‘rumor’ has not been confirmed, but it has not been denied; so it must be TRUE!

Jeremy Faison (R-TN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Wonkette

Oh, yeah, Tennessee state Rep. Jeremy Faison is VERY VERY SORRY about the awful thing he said, about the gay children who killed themselves in his state after they had been bullied for being so very queer. Just how stupid is fat fuckface up there?

“We can’t continue to legislate everything. We’ve had some horrible things happen in America and in our state, and there’s children that have actually committed suicide, but I will submit to you today that they did not commit suicide because of somebody bullying them. They committed suicide because they were not instilled the proper principles of where their self-esteem came from at home.”

RLY. The “proper principles” like probably not being such fags, we guess. But it’s not like he’s a big expert on homo stuff, ’cause he is godfearing (“attended” Clearwater Christian College and Northland Baptist Bible College) and has four children who doubtless HAVE been raised with proper principles of where their self-esteem comes from (not being fags), so you could see why this well-meaning fellow would accidentally make a gaffe in his pants. Nope, most of his bills pertain to goin’ offroadin’ and making sure funds are not allocated to implement enforcement of new child laborregulations.

But it’s true we can’t continue to “legislate everything,” EXCEPT when it comes to uteruses and men’s bottoms.

Anyway, Faison represents Cocke County, for serious, so haha? Oh, Tennessee, never change. (Kidding, kidding, you’re horrible just the way you are!)

Stacey Campfield (R-TN) ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Think Progress

Tennessee state Sen. Stacey Campfield (R), the man who sponsored Tennessee’s “don’t say gay” bill and once compared homosexuality to bestiality, now has a theory about the spread of HIV/AIDS. On Thursday, Campfield told the Huffington Post’s Michael Signorile that it’s virtually impossible to spread HIV/AIDS through heterosexual sex and that AIDS came from the gay community:

“Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community — it was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall.”

“My understanding is that it is virtually — not completely, but virtually — impossible to contract AIDS through heterosexual sex…very rarely [transmitted].”

But the FACTS don’t back up Campfield’s vicious lies.

1) Most women who have been infected with HIV were infected through heterosexual sex, many from their husbands or boyfriends.

3)  In 2007, women made up more than 60 PERCENT of adults living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, and the Global Council on Health reports that the male-to-female transmission of HIV is twice as likely as the female-to-male transmission.

Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Raw Story

Leading the charge for Republicans against President Barack Obama’s recent recess appointments, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) issued a press release on Tuesday castigating the allegedly unconstitutional picks and insisting that “Congress was not in fact in recess.”

But three sentences later, Black said (emphasis added): “I hope the House considers my resolution as SOON as we RETURN to Washington so we can send a message to President Obama.”

“Quote of the Week”

“If, theoretically, you did get rid of all the Mexicans, YOU’D BE HUNGRY in a WEEK,” Marks said. “All your vegetables had a Mexican hand on it. All your fruit, and three-quarters of your meat.”

Via: Tennessean

“New immigration laws could hit farmers, drive up food prices’

Inside a spartan shed thick with the smell of moist tobacco, temporary laborers from the Mexican state of Nayarit deftly stripped a truckload of the plant’s broad leaves from its hardened stalks.

A foreman, Pedro Peña, handed racks of dark air-cured tobacco down to another worker, Lupe Villegas, who loaded each one onto one of two sets of chain drives. As the racks went along the drive, teams of eight workers laid the stalks bare and sorted the tobacco into three grades, all in less than a minute. A final worker removed the exposed stems and loaded them into a V-shaped crib.

Without these 19 men, most of whom have been coming back every fall for a decade, George Marks could not bring in the three varieties of tobacco he farms, he says. The same is true of dairy cows, which he also raises on his Montgomery County farm, and a host of other crops grown in Tennessee — peaches, tomatoes, gourds, apples.

Last year, more than 2,300 H-2A workers were hired on approximately 150 sites in Tennessee.

But farm workers have abandoned Georgia and Alabama in droves this fall, forcing farmers to abandon their crops for lack of enough hands in the fields. Economists in the two states estimate their economies lost at least $115 million as a result. (and yes, the losses will be passed on to the consumer: YOU!)
