BREAKING NEWS – U.S. Navy says it can now convert seawater into fuel

Via: Raw Story

The US Navy believes it has finally worked out the solution to a problem that has intrigued scientists for decades: how to take seawater and use it as fuel.

The development of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel is being hailed as “a game-changer” because it would significantly shorten the supply chain, a weak link that makes any force easier to attack.

The US has a fleet of 15 military oil tankers, and only aircraft carriers and some submarines are equipped with nuclear propulsion.

“We are in very challenging times where we really do have to think in pretty innovative ways to look at how we create energy, how we value energy and how we consume it.

“We need to challenge the results of the assumptions that are the result of the last six decades of constant access to cheap, unlimited amounts of fuel,” added Cullom.

“Basically, we’ve treated energy like air, something that’s always there and that we don’t worry about too much. But the reality is that we do have to worry about it.”

US experts have found out how to extract carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas from seawater.

Then, using a catalytic converter, they transformed them into a fuel by a gas-to-liquids process. They hope the fuel will not only be able to power ships, but also planes.

All other vessels must frequently abandon their mission for a few hours to navigate in parallel with the tanker, a delicate operation, especially in bad weather.

The ultimate goal is to eventually get away from the dependence on oil altogether, which would also mean the navy is no longer hostage to potential shortages of oil or fluctuations in its cost.

Vice Admiral Philip Cullom declared: “It’s a huge milestone for us.”

Dr Heather Willauer, an research chemist who has spent nearly a decade on the project, can hardly hide her enthusiasm.

“For the first time we’ve been able to develop a technology to get CO2 and hydrogen from seawater simultaneously, that’s a big breakthrough,” she said, adding that the fuel “doesn’t look or smell very different.”

Now that they have demonstrated it can work, the next step is to produce it in industrial quantities. But before that, in partnership with several universities, the experts want to improve the amount of CO2 and hydrogen they can capture.

“We’ve demonstrated the feasibility, we want to improve the process efficiency,” explained Willauer.

Tim Giardina – ‘Three Star Admiral MORON of the Day’

Via: Raw Story

The deputy commander of US nuclear forces has been fired from his post after being investigated for allegedly using COUNTERFEIT CHIPS at a CASINO, officers said.

The move was highly unusual against such a senior officer in US Strategic Command, which oversees the country’s nuclear-armed missiles, submarines and bombers. (So what are you saying, there are other senior officers using COUNTERFEIT CHIPS? – Gawd, help us!)

personal  thought:

Giardina is so DAMN DUMB, I fully expect he be will the next Fox News ‘military analyst’.

Thailand – Former US Navy Commander recieved bribes, including prostitutes, . . .

Via: Coconuts – Bangkok

The former commander of a US Navy warship has reportedly been relieved of duty for, amongst other offenses, accepting bribes in the form of prostitutes, luxury travel, and Lady Gaga tickets while on port visits to Thailand in 2011 and 2012.

Cmdr. Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz is currently being investigated for bribery involving millions of dollars worth of US government contracts. Misiewicz “used his position to direct warships to ports with lax oversight where GDMA (a Singaporean port services company) was able to overcharge for food, water, fuel and services like waste removal, security and ground transportation,” Time reported.

Misiewicz, interestingly enough, was born in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime, fled to the US, and was adopted and raised by an American woman in the Midwest.

Overcharges amounted to USD2.3 million in port visits to Thailand with the USS Blue Ridge in 2011 and 2012, according to court records.

In exchange for signing off on the inflated charges, Misiewicz was allegedly plied with prostitutes, luxury travel, and tickets to the Lady Gaga concert at Rajamangala in May 2012.

GDMA, which facilitated the deals, called one group of prostitutes in Thailand his “Elite Thai Seal Team.”

Sandy Rios – ‘Xristian Xrazy of the Day’

A Christian radio host warned on Monday that a strike on Syria could be doomed to fail because of a “homosexual takeover” of the U.S. military.

The American Family Association’s Sandy Rios told her listeners that she opposed an attack on Syria because it the “nature” of Secretary of State John Kerry to LIE about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons.

“There’s a second reason and that is military readiness,” she continued. “When I looked at those battleships (SEE PHOTO) going into the Mediterranean, supposedly getting ready for battle in Syria, I couldn’t help think about all the stories I’ve read about how women now are in the ranks of the Navy, getting pregnant at exponential numbers.”

Personal Thought:

Perhaps Ms Rios would be in favor of ‘shipboard’ abortion on request.

Naw, probably not.

“Quote of the Day”

Via: Huffington Post

“You {Romney) mention the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916.

Well governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets,” Obama said during the final presidential debate. “We have these things called aircraft carriers and planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines.”

“It’s not a game of battleship where we’re counting ships, it’s ‘What are our capabilities?'” he said.

He said his administration sits down with the military forces, including heads of the Navy, to discuss what resources they need.
