(2 of 2) I’m working, I’ll continue to be paid.” – Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah)

1

As hundreds of thousands of federal workers continue to be impacted by government shutdown furloughs, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has no intention of losing his paycheck.

In a recent interview with KUTV-TV obtained by BuzzFeed, LEE was ADAMANT that despite dozens of his colleagues deferring or donating pay, he would not follow suit.

“I’m working,” Lee told KUTV. “I’ll continue to be paid.”

Aaron Osmond (R-UT) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

1

Via: Huffington Post

A Republican state senator in Utah is calling for the end of mandatory education in the state.

State Sen. Aaron Osmond (R-South Jordan) wrote on the state Senate blog Friday that mandatory education in the state has forced teachers and schools to take on parenting responsibilities. Prior to the mandate taking effect in 1890, he wrote, education was “an opportunity” and parents were more engaged. He also wrote that teachers were more respected. The Deseret News first reported Osmond’s blog post on Tuesday.

Osmond is the nephew of entertainers Donny and Marie Osmond.

Salt Lake City Tribune – Endorses Obama!

Via: Sltrib

ROMNEY:

. . . first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party’s shape-shifting nominee.

From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign:

“Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?”

.

If this portrait of a Romney willing to say anything to get elected seems harsh, we need only revisit his branding of 47 percent of Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, yet feel victimized and entitled to government assistance.

His job, he told a group of wealthy donors, “is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

***

PRESIDENT OBAMA:

And what of the president Romney would replace? For four years, President Barack Obama has attempted, with varying degrees of success, to pull the nation out of its worst financial meltdown since the Great Depression, a deepening crisis he inherited the day he took office.

In the first months of his presidency, Obama acted decisively to stimulate the economy. His leadership was essential to passage of the badly needed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Though Republicans criticize the stimulus for failing to create jobs, it clearly helped stop the hemorrhaging of public sector jobs. The Utah Legislature used hundreds of millions in stimulus funds to plug holes in the state’s budget.

The president also acted wisely to bail out the auto industry, which has since come roaring back. Romney, in so many words, said the carmakers should sink if they can’t swim.

***

CONCLUSION:

Therefore, our endorsement must go to the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day.

The president has earned a second term.

Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first.

personal thoughts:

1. Anyone care to lay odds that Ann is even more pissed than Willard (see photo)?

2. I expect if they haven’t done so already, his other ‘home-town’ papers, the Detriot Free Press and the Boston Globe, will follow suit.

Which would leave what, the ‘La Jolla Nickel Want Ads’?

luv it!

Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: Raw Story

Soledad O’Brien: “At the end of the day, that same number crunching was voted on by virtually every single Republican in 2011 and then again in 2012. That is fair to say,” O’Brien pointed out, adding that both Romney and Ryan had promised to “save” Medicare by turning it into a “voucher program.”

Chaffetz: “No, it’s not!”

O’Brien: “It’s not a voucher program?”

Chaffetz: “It is not a voucher program. It is a premium support, and that is totally different than a voucher program. And every time somebody says, ‘Oh, it’s a voucher program,’ it’s false, it’s misleading, it’s derogatory and it’s inaccurate. That is not what it does.”

O’Brien: “You will give people money to go and buy their own insurance, right? But we’re arguing over symantics. At the end of the day, isn’t it — you would give someone money to buy their own insurance.”

Chafffetz: “No, a premium support program is different than a voucher program.”

O’Brien: “Walk me through how it’s different.”

Chaffetz: “Because some people that have maybe more needs or medical needs or they have less income, they’re going to have more flexibility and more assets to go and do what they need to do in order to have some choice and flexibility and create competition in the marketplace.”

O’Brien: “Which is they get a VOUCHER TO GO BUY SOMETHING!”.

personal thought:

SENIORS: I think the proposed $8,000 per year ‘premium support program’ VOUCHER might be enough IF you remain healthy.

However, IF you have a chronic condition, or say you need a by-pass or hip replacement, you are absolutely f*cked!

Q: Let’s say you have a pre-existing condition (heart diesease, diabetes, etc, etc) what comany in their right mind would insure you?

A: No company will, and you will be UN-INSURED!

(1 of 2) Willard ‘Mitt’ Romey- even DUMBER than Dubya and Palin; COMBINED!

Via: Sprudge.com

A strange tail out of Provo Canyon, Utah, where Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney chose NOT to TIP his Borders Cafe (minimum wage) barista, and INSTEAD offered her the rest of his half-guzzled hot chocolate.

On their way out, Anne throws away her half-consumed hot chocolate, but Mitt approaches the counter. “I know you guys can’t sell this again, but I was wondering if one of you guys wanted the rest of my hot chocolate?”

“No thanks,” one of the other baristas told him, wondering if this was some sort of bizarre joke.

“I don’t want to waste it, there’s still plenty left, it’s still perfectly good…”

The whole depraved incident was captured on Instagram. Only Sprudge.com has this exclusive screenshot from a user who has since been mysteriously deleted from the service.

Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) – ‘GOP Moron x pi’ of the Day

Via: Wonkette

Representative Jason Chaffetz, a Republican (duh) from Utah, has a lot in common with his fellow Republicans, given that he thinks that fixing the deficit is a very, very important issue, but! not so important that we should be willing to cut defense spending or let the Bush tax cuts expire to get the job done.

See, to Representative Jason Chaffetz, the deficit is a very specific level of important that necessitates raising the retirement age to 72, but does NOT require the expiration of the Bush tax cuts.

In an op-ed over at The Hill called “Washington Has a Spending Problem, Not a Revenue Problem,” Chaffetz patiently explains that if we’d all just be willing to pitch in and sacrifice a little — you know:

– retire at 72

– privatize Medicare

– limit government assistance to Poors, that sort of thing

bottom-line: We can protect the interests of oil companies and rich people AND fix the deficit!

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) – ‘GOP Moron of the Day’

Via: TPM

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is going after Sen. Orrin Hatch for saying that the poor need to “share some of the responsibility” for shrinking the debt.

“The top 10 percent are paying 70 percent of all income taxes. The top 50 percent pay something like 98 percent of all income taxes. Fifty-one percent don’t pay anything,” Hatch said.

~

“Republican priorities are completely out of whack and Orrin Hatch’s comments prove that point,” DSCC’s Shripal Shah told TPM.

“It’s bad enough that Republicans are doing everything they can to protect tax breaks for millionaires and special interests, but the fact that the Republican idea of shared sacrifice means going after the those who are struggling the most is completely reprehensible,” Shah said.
